If you’ve eaten at a Japanese restaurant before, then you probably have seen a bento box. A bento box is kind of like a boxed in plate with smaller box plates within it. The Japanese add all kinds of different food in each box, providing a variety of food to eat.
By eating out of a bento box, you can consume meals in a portion controlled way. Compared to a regular plate, you are prone to pile your plate with food. You also have less space, and although you could possibly pile food in there, it won’t look right. You may even realize that perhaps you’re eating too much when eating out of it.
The best advice for what kind of food to put into a bento box is based on a 3:2:1 ratio. The best portion consists of three parts rice, one part protein and 2 parts fruits and vegetables.
There are a lot of boxes to choose from, from traditional looking ones, to modern looking ones that adults and kids both use to bring their everyday lunches in. There are even cute ones that are considered collectible items that people collect for the fun of it!
By using bento lunch boxes everyday, you’re more likely to eat better, and get used to eating smaller portions. With the big portions that most restaurants give out, they don’t realize that the bigger portions do more harm than good. You owe it to yourself to eat healthier and be healthier!
