Best Skin Foods - What Foods Are Good For Your Skin? A Nurse's Secrets

If you’ve been wishing you had better looking skin, clear skin or healthy skin, there are a few foods and a few raw foods you can concentrate on eating to help you achieve the best looking skin. Although many people first think of using creams, day creams, night creams and wrinkle creams as the best way to help care for and keep their skin healthy and give them good looking skin, the truth is that eating the right foods, especially those that are antioxidant-rich will give you the best looking skin.

Skin care creams cannot attack or work on or cure problems that are being formed within the body. The skin is the largest organ and is going to reflect what is happening to you inside your body.

First of all, you want to eat fruits and veggies that are loaded with vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and can help prevent damage to your skin from a variety of causes. It’s also thought to prevent your skin from the ravages of aging. Vitamin C also helps in collagen formation. Collagen supports the structure of the skin and helps to keep it smooth. You cannot get this kind of collagen in any skin cream or wrinkle cream.

The vitamin C fruits and veggies to seek out are strawberries, kiwi, red peppers, all citrus fruit including oranges and grapefruits, tomatoes, broccoli and potatoes.

Another great antioxidant is beta carotene. Beta-carotene converts to vitamin A in the body (but should not be taken in supplement form.) This helps us build healthy skin cells. It helps to keep the skin hydrated and also protects the skin from bacteria and viruses.

The foods in this group include carrots, apricots, spinach, collard greens, sweet potatoes and romaine. One of the best skin boosting secrets- you can add spinach to your morning all-fruit smoothies. A handful of baby spinach will pack a great punch. Or add three leaves of romaine – you can hardly taste it – for a big boost of energy also. I drink lots of carrot juice and have for years, and have healthy, clear skin.

Another antioxidant is vitamin E. It protects the cells from radical damage. This can happen easily from UV rays from the sun. You can help to strengthen those cells with foods that are rich in vitamin E. These include sunflower seeds, almonds, olive oil and mangoes. I make a scrumptious pate from sunflower seeds that I snack on every day. A sunny seed pate! Of course you can snack on sunflower seeds whole also, but best if they’re raw, not roasted. Roasting will damage the vitamin E. I also make homemade almond milk for an added boost for my skin and body.

Foods that are high in the omega-3 fats help to prevent inflammation. Omega-3 also benefits the heart and keeps the skin clear and moist. It may even help cut down on wrinkles. The omega-3 fats include flaxseed, flaxseed oil and walnuts. It’s easy to add a tablespoon of flax oil to your green salads for a big boost. Make sure you buy fresh, refrigerated flax oil so it doesn’t go rancid fast. You can grind up a tablespoon or two of flaxseed and add it to your applesauce. If you’re a meat-eater sardines and tuna are high in omega-3 fats.

You want to make sure to sip pure, filtered water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated. It’s easy to get dehydrated and it’ll take a toll on your skin. Fruits and veggies have a high concentration of water so if you’re eating lots of them you will help keep yourself hydrated also.

Now you know what foods are best for your skin. These are the fruits and veggies and foods that will help your skin the most. Concentrate on eating as many as you can each day, especially raw, not cooked, to protect loss of the antioxidants. Do this every day and you’ll notice a big difference in your skin. It won’t take long to clear up whether you have acne, dermatitis, eczema or any other skin problem or condition – an inside natural treatment secret if you will. It will help keep your body healthy and free of disease too.
